Maspalomas inmortaliza a Darío Jaén en la plaza central del Yumbo

La plaza central del Centro Comercial Yumbo, en Playa del Inglés, ha quedado oficialmente visualizada como Plaza de la Diversidad Darío Jaén Rivero desde la tarde-noche del pasado miércoles. En presencia de la madre, hermana y otros familiares de Darío Jaén, el alcalde de San Bartolomé de Tirajana dio apertura al acto y esbozó la figura del destacado activista y su constante lucha por las libertades. La nominación de esta plaza se hizo, en el Día del Orgullo, como el final del cumplimiento del acuerdo plenario de 31 de mayo de 2016, que de forma unánime decidió dar el nombre al significado referente de la lucha LGTB y los derechos e igualdad de las personas.

La señora Virginia Rivero García, madre de Darío Jaén, acompañó al alcalde tirajanero en el descubrimiento de una placa en la que se dejaba constancia de la nomenclatura al significado espacio central del Yumbo, así como del acuerdo del Pleno municipal por el que se procedió a su nominación.
El primer mandatario municipal, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, significó que hace 48 años se iniciaron los movimientos de reivindicación por la igualdad, destacando también la unanimidad de todos los grupos políticos del Ayuntamiento en el reconocimiento de Darío Jaén, que también lo es para con el trabajo de mucha gente, por la lucha en la sociedad para contribuir a un justicia social para todos, sin importar su condición. Asimismo, elogió la figura de Darío, con el que convivió en la vida diaria de la institución municipal, resaltando sus inquietudes hacia la comunidad LGTB, con un gran tesón para conseguir la visualización y la normalización, así como establecer sistemas de información y ayuda para portadores del SIDA.
Chary Jaén, hermana de Darío, fue la que habló en nombre de los familiares, significando el orgullo que es para su madre que esa plaza lleve el nombre de su amado hijo, al que se le reconocen su labor, trabajo, esfuerzo y espíritu innovador y transgresor. Dijo de su hermano que tenía un sueño de libertad e igualdad, y que con la plaza que se inauguraba su hermano sería recordado por su activismo y defensa de los derechos de las personas con el VIH.

Monolito al SIDA

En otro lado del espacio central del Yumbo se diseñó un monolito con una placa que tiene grabado un lazo rojo permanente “dedicado a todas las personas que sufren con el SIDA”, pues el lazo rojo simboliza la lucha y la esperanza en la lucha contra la enfermedad. Se guardó un minuto de silencio por las víctimas y Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, como alcalde, recordó también que el lazo simboliza la lucha, con el deseo de querer convertirlo en un icono, para tener presentes que hay que seguir trabajando.
El presidente de Amigos Contra el Sida (ACES), Orlando Viera, expresó el agradecimiento, en un día especial para el colectivo LGTB. Recordó las casi cinco décadas de creación de un movimiento de lucha por las libertades de personas con otra condición sexual. Asimismo, se izó una bandera con los colores del arco iris, símbolo del Orgullo.

En el acto también estuvieron presentes varios miembros de la Corporación municipal de San Bartolomé de Tirajana, familiares de Darío Jaén, la consejera insular de Política Social, Elena Máñez, y colectivos de defensa de la igualdad y respeto de la sociedad a la diversidad.

She said of her brother that he had a dream of freedom and equality, and that with inaugurating the plaza her brother would be remembered for his activism and defense of the rights of people with HIV.

Monolith to AIDS

On the other side of the central space of the Yumbo, a monolith was designed with a plaque engraved with a permanent red ribbon "dedicated to all people suffering from AIDS", as the Red Ribbon symbolizes struggle and hope in the fight against the disease.
