In the course of musealization of the Dutch AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Mediterrannée (MuCEM) in Marseille acquired a quilt block with a relation to immigration from Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. Four out of the eight panels are created by members of SidaVida, a former group of HIV-positive people in Amsterdam, all four displaying (the colors of) the country's or region's flag: Voce Brasileiros (Brazil); Todos los Canarios (Canary Islands - the flag is a tricolor of white, blue and yellow); Mari (Costa Rica), a prostitute, and her family members Titi and Raulin commemorated by her Dutch client; and Jose Pineda (Mexico), a painter. The other four panels commemorate Dutch people, one of them, Ivo Corthals, was co-founder of one of the two predecessors of the Hiv Association. The maker of this panel was actually leading the quilting workshop and decided to add it to the block after having kept it at home for over 19 years.
Block 23 has been brought to Marseille on 18 October, the donation was accepted by the {Acquisition Committee of MuCEM} on 16 November 2018.
