Parc de l'espoir - AIDS memorial park
First used in 1991 and officialized by the city in 1996, due to pressure by a group called Act Up. The park is on rue Ste-Catherine and Panet in the Gay Village. The front section is the realm of the dead, symbolized by inert materials - polished black granite and concrete. The back section represents the living. Photo © Alanah Heffez flickr
