Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der BRD, Innenhof Names and Stones - Cold Square since 1 December 1993
unknown
Every visitor of the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republik of Germany inevitably had to cross the artwork Cold Square integrated in the paving slabs of the gate-like main entrance. Since 1993, about 11 million visitors stepped over artist Tom Fecht's installation which is part of the memorial Names and Stones.
Because the artwork was permanently exposed to loading and the access for wheelchairs across the cobble stones was arduous, on the suggestion of the Association of Handicapped People a new location for the permanent loan of the German AIDS Foundation was chosen in 2008.
On the occasion of the transfer on 22 September 2008 and in the presence of the Honory President of the German AIDS Foundation, Prof. Rita Süßmuth, Tom Fecht complements the memorial with a further name stone. It remembers the small boy Benjamin from South Africa who died at the age of three. "The new stone serves the remembrance of all children affected by HIV." [preliminary text]
