Pride approaches.
In this instance it comes long after and not before the fall, and when I say the fall I mean that dark time 30 years ago when men were dying left and right, victims of a strange and deadly disease, a time when love was wrapped in fear, and there was misery and dread in so many hearts. HIV/AIDS is no longer necessarily fatal. How things change — young people have become so casual about consequences that the old precautions now seem quaint. But there are men in our midst who were there in those early and terrifying days and the fact that they survived the plague when so many others did not means that they are walking miracles. [...]
