A canvas with embroidered names of AIDS victims will be placed on the Theater Square
Every year on the third Sunday in May, the entire planet celebrates World AIDS Day. At this time, Ukraine will remember those who are no more today.

That is why, on the memorable day, Ternopil Oblast CSSSDM, joining the International Movement "Names", initiates the action in Ternopil.
According to the organizers, on Sunday, May 18, from 12:00 to 14:00, the Theater Square of our city will be covered with "Quilt" - a canvas embroidered with the names of residents of Ternopil region who died of AIDS in recent years. Since 1987, 84 people who died of the plague of the XXI century have been officially registered in our region.
The action is also planned to light candles, launch air lanterns into the sky, broadcast videos about HIV / AIDS on street screens and screens of scheduled vehicles.

The international Names movement originated in 1987 in the United States. Activist Cleve Jones sewed a canvas (QUILT) in memory of a friend who died of AIDS to express the pain of loss and outrage at the government's inaction. His grief was so great that he covered himself daily with this blanket, which reminded him of a person close to him, who seemed to be near. Today, this initiative has spread around the world. The International AIDS Memorial "QUILT", which has 5,683 sections of commemorative canvases, on which you can see 82,000 names of people who died of AIDS, has become the main symbol of the "Names" movement.
