Our living memorial to everyone past and present who has been affected by HIV in Berkshire

Why a living memorial?
Reading has a high prevalence of HIV and it’s important for us to acknowledge HIV within our community. The living memorial will be a lasting tribute for generation after generation to enjoy and keep HIV awareness on the agenda.

What kind of tree is the Living Memorial?
The HIV Living Memorial is a cherry blossom tree that produces beautiful flowers between March and May.
The cherry blossom tree is said to indicate the changing seasons of your life and for us, it represents the changing face of HIV throughout the years.

Visiting the Living Memorial
You can find the HIV Living Memorial in Christchurch Meadows, Reading, near the steps of the George Street Bridge and the tennis courts. There is a commemorative plaque in-front of the tree, making it easier to spot!

Special thanks to Reading Borough Council for their help with sourcing and planting the tree and to Cllr Rachel Eden for being part of this historical event.
