AIDS Quilts
27 November 2012 - 2 December 2012
Beautifully hand sewn memorial quilts will be displayed at Newcastle Museum to mark AIDS Awareness Week from Tuesday 27 November. The quilts have been lovingly made by friends, carers, lovers and families of people in the Hunter who have died from an AIDS related illness.
Museum Deputy Director Julie Baird says the quilts are moving memorials to loved ones, many of whom died too young. “This local exhibition is a perfect example of the way Newcastle Museum engages with different community groups to tell the many stories of Newcastle. “We are very fortunate that these beautiful quilts will become part of the Museum’s permanent collection at the conclusion of the exhibition.”
The quilts will be on display at Newcastle Museum from 27 November to 2 December 2012.
