Memorial sign to AIDS victims unveiled in Cherkasy park
On World AIDS Day, December 1, a memorial was unveiled in the Sosnovy Bor park in Cherkasy, a ribbon of memory of people who died from the immunodeficiency virus, a correspondent of vikka.ua reports.

The opening of the memorial was initiated by the charitable organization From Heart to Heart."The idea to open the monument arose long ago. Previously, we did not have a place where we could hold such events and remember people. Now such a place has finally appeared," says Natalia Nesvat, chairman of the board of the "From Heart to Heart" charity. The memorial sign was installed on the initiative of Oleksiy Petrov from Cherkasy. The project for the installation of such a memorial was submitted to the "Public Budget" and received a sufficient number of votes for its installation.

According to Olga Vakulyuk, a physician at the regional AIDS Center, 7523 HIV-positive people have been officially registered in Cherkasy Oblast over the entire period of the epidemic (20 years), including 1300 children. AIDS has affected 2780 people, including 46 children. 1095 people and 16 children died of the disease. "The society should pay attention to this disease, because it has turned from a fatal to a chronic one.
