An action dedicated to the memory of people who died of AIDS was held in Odesa
Odessans were reminded of the importance of HIV prevention and tolerant attitude towards people living with HIV.
On May 20, 2018, events were held in Odesa to mark the World AIDS Day, which is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of May. The events under the slogan "100% Life - 100% Tolerance" were held to draw public attention to HIV/AIDS, HIV prevention and other socially dangerous phenomena among Odesa residents and to form a tolerant attitude towards people living with HIV in society.

In Kirovsky Park, representatives of the Odesa City Center for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and NGOs cleaned the area and planted flowers at the memorial to people who died of AIDS. They also held a fair of non-governmental organizations and launched balloons in memory of those who died of AIDS.

The action continued on Hretska Square. In memory of people who died of AIDS, participants unfolded patchwork quilts with commemorative inscriptions, launched red balloons into the sky and unfurled a large red ribbon, a symbol of the fight against AIDS.
At the Odesa City Center for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, patients with HIV are provided with full antiretroviral therapy medications free of charge. To increase accessibility of HIV testing for Odesa residents, a project was launched to diagnose HIV infection in city hospitals and primary health care centers.

Last year, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov signed the Paris Declaration, joining the initiative of mayors of major cities around the world to overcome the AIDS epidemic.
