Kevin Hardwick, web editor at Pink Mountains was a member of the committee that began plans for the memorial in 1992, on a piece of Medlow Bath Park overgrown with blackberries. Committee chair and local businessman Morris Cooper OAM and the late Senator James McClelland were gaining Council permission for the park and overcoming local opposition. The group planted a lot of maples and silver birches among other trees and shrubs with plaques remembering someone who had died of AIDS with all the trees. The Three Sisters Blue Mountains social group is continuously supporting the maintenance of the park.
