AIDS Commemorative Park Boosters Have Their Say
Supporters of an AIDS commemorative park at the site of the shuttered St. Vincent's hospital are pushing back against the argument that this Hudson River Park structure at Bank Street is sufficient for marking the health crisis that killed tens of thousands of New York gay men. A granite bench-like structure in the Hudson River Park at Bank Street bears the words “I can sail without wind, I can row without oars, but I cannot part from my friend without tears” but has no explanatory plaque, no education or commemorative information, and not even the word AIDS.
