Kirchenplatz, Eingang Wallenfels'sches Haus | Names and Stones - Wind Rose I |
since 2 July 1994 28 names |
The installation “NAMES and STONES – Wind Rose I” is situated in front of the Wallenfels House at the Kirchenplatz since 1994. It is part of artist Tom Fecht’s project at public places in different European cities. The project commemorates friends, who died of AIDS: Be it names of famous persons or names of citizens from Gießen – people who have lived with us. “With contemplation, NAMES and STONES sets memories of people free, who were believed to belong to disadvantaged groups of society, and it appeals to us to turn towards life and the future” (Tom Fecht). The AIDS-Hilfe Gießen e.V. cares for the installation and expands it continuously. New stones are installed at the request of family members / persons concerned or for long standing clients of the AIDS-Hilfe. Every year on World AIDS Day, a commemorative service is held at the installation.
