The AIDS Memorial Tree was planted on the occasion of 40 years HIV/AIDS on 1 December 2021 on the Pátio de Santa Cruz in the central Boa Vista neighbourhood of Recife. Aids Articulation in Pernambuco in partnership with Recife Urbanisation Authority unveiled a plaque reading "40 years of HIV/AIDS in the world: solidarity in the fight against AIDS - Live Life" and planted the tree to symbolise life and in honour of those who have died as a result of the disease.
