IHLIA LGBT Heritage, oba Oosterdok | Dutch AIDS Memorial Quilt - blocks 10 and 28 |
since 15 October 2018 164 names |
In the course of musealization of the Dutch AIDS Memorial Quilt, IHLIA LGBT Heritage acquired two quilt blocks that relate to LGBT history. Block 10 is dedicated to multiple loss, it contains a panel made by NAMENproject member Hayo Huizinga remembering his three spouces lost to AIDS one of whom is a founding member of the Belangenvereniging Menschen met Aids, one of the two predecessors of the Hiv Association Netherlands. He actually left room for his own name but it came different: Hayo now is longterm survivor and in the meantime lead three quilting workshops resulting in blocks 22, 23, and 26.
Block 28 was made in the course of 25 years Schorer Buddyzorg (buddy care) in 2009. It shows the Schorer logo with 154 first names of people they cared for lined up in the circles. 3 years later, Schorer, a foundation to support the mental and physical health of LGBT people, went bancrupt.
Blocks 10 and 28 have been transferred to IHLIA LGBT Heritage in the Public Library of Amsterdam on 15 October 2018.
